What does Google Maps Ranking cover?
How Google Maps ranking works, what you can influence and how to measure progress honestly.
The three factors
Relevance is how well your profile matches a search. Distance is how far your business is from the searcher or the area they name. Prominence is how well known your business is, based on information such as reviews, links and mentions across the web.
What you can influence
You cannot move your location or the searcher, but you can improve the accuracy of your information, the match between your profile and your services and the signals that show your business is established.
- Accurate categories, services and description
- A website that supports the profile
- Consistent listings
- Genuine reviews and replies
- Relevant local links and mentions
Measuring visibility
Rankings vary by searcher location, so a single "position" is misleading. We use measured data such as impressions, calls, direction requests and website clicks where available, and we label third-party estimates as estimates.
